Barricades in the 1848 revolution, 03/1848

Descripcion foto: The March Revolution in Berlin was part of the revolutions of 1848/1849 in Europe and a central event in the German freedom and national movement. After opposition popular assemblies in Berlin demanded freedom from the Prussian monarchy, the military took action against them from March 13, 1848. These clashes escalated to barricade fighting on March 18 and 19, which claimed several hundred lives . King Friedrich Wilhelm IV finally felt compelled to withdraw the military from Berlin and make political concessions to the demonstrators. A temporary liberalization took place by the summer: a liberal government was appointed, and a freely elected National Assembly began drafting a constitution for Prussia. However, the disunity of the revolutionary forces made it possible for the king to withdraw most of the concessions from 1849 onwards.
