Château de la Tournelle

Under your feet

Château de la Tournelle

Descripcion foto: The Tournelle Castle took the place of the Tournelle Tower, built at the beginning of the 13th century to protect the city in case of an invasion through the Seine. The Tournelle Tower was demolished at the beginning of the 15th Century and replaced by the castle. Losing all defensive interest over time, it was converted into a prison for convicts forced to be used as rowers in galleys. It was demolished in 1792, during the French Revolution.
