Descripcion foto: The massacre at Masaryk station was the killing of around 50 captured Czech insurgents and civilians by German soldiers. It happened on May 8, 1945, at Masaryk station and its surroundings during the Prague Uprising. Czech insurgents occupied Masaryk station during the uprising and on the night of 8 May 1945, the station was surrounded by German troops, armed with guns and tank destroyers . About 100 Czech insurgents defended themselves against the German superiority at the railway station. The station was captured by German troops after heavy fighting and heavily damaged by German fire from cannons and tank destroyers. After capturing the station, German soldiers forced all persons hiding in the station shelters to leave these shelters. Women and children were separated from the men. Approximately 24 men were shot on the spot in the station hall. Another 29 men were taken away by German soldiers and executed on the platform behind gate number 2.
