Descripcion foto: In 1938, with the increasing tensions caused by Nazi Germany's intention to occupy the Sudetenland (a border region of Czechoslovakia where mainly ethnic Germans lived), an agreement was signed in Munich to avoid the start of a new war in Europe. Czechoslovakia's allies, the United Kingdom and France, cede to Hitler's demands, in what is known as the Munich Betrayal, and obliged Czechoslovakia to give up their territories. Having lost the borderlands where the main fortifications were built, Czechoslovakia was an easy target when a few months later, on 15 March 1939, Germany occupied the rest of the country and proclaimed the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.
