Wenceslas Square - The Horse Market

Description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_of_Pod%C4%9Bbrady

Descripcion foto: When the New Town of Prague was founded by King Charles IV on March 8, 1348, the city plan included a number of open spaces intended for markets; between them, there was the Horse Market, later known as Wenceslas Square. At the upper end of the Horse Market stood the Horse Gate, demolished together with the Prague Walls in 1875. In its original form, the Vinohradský stream flowed through the center of the present-day Wenceslas Square, which flowed into the pond on Můstek and was later channeled into the sewer network. Annual markets have been held here since 1362. Not only horses were traded here, but also weapons, fabrics, and, from 1877, also grain. In 1448 Jiří z Poděbrad (in English George of Poděbrady) marched through The Horse Market with his army, and after this event, he was declared King of Bohemia.
