Descripcion foto: Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. In December 1826 illness struck him, with symptoms including fever, jaundice, and dropsy, with swollen limbs, coughing, and breathing difficulties. He died on 26 March 1827 at the age of 56. His funeral procession in Vienna was attended by an estimated 10,000 people. Franz Schubert and the violinist Joseph Mayseder were among the torchbearers. Beethoven was buried in the Währing cemetery, northwest of Vienna, after a requiem mass at the church of the Holy Trinity (Dreifaltigkeitskirche) in Alserstrasse.
