Descripcion foto: The first Apollo temple building dates to 431 BC, when the consul Gaius Iulius Mento inaugurated one dedicated to Apollo Medicus (the doctor), in fulfillment of a vow to him during a plague of 433 BC. It would have been closed during the persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire when the Christian Emperors issued edicts prohibiting all non-Christian worship and sanctuaries.
