Entry of Charles X into Paris at the Gate of la Villette, after his Coronation

Description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_X

Descripcion foto: In 1825 King Charles X succeeded his brother King Louis XVIII, who had died after a long disease. Charles X's coronation was done at the Cathedral of Reims, the traditional site of the consecration of French kings, and after that, he resided mainly at the Tuileries Palace in Paris. Charles's reign of almost six years proved to be deeply unpopular amongst the liberals in France: he increased the power of the Catholic Church, approved the French conquest of Algeria, forced Haiti to pay a hefty indemnity in return for recognizing Haiti's independence, and reimposed press censorship. This led to the July Revolution of 1830, which resulted in his abdication and the election of Louis Philippe I as King of the French. He was the last of the French rulers from the senior branch of the House of Bourbon.
