The academy played a key role in shaping the military and political power of Prussia and later, Germany. Carl von Clausewitz enrolled as one of its first students. During World War II, the academy was used by the Nazis to indoctrinate young officers in their ideology, and was heavily damaged by Allied bombing raids.
