NY4 - Plattsburgh | MacDonough Monument

Description: MacDonough Monument 42 City Hall Pl. Plattsburgh, New York Access: 24/7 Located across from City Hall, The Macdonough Monument stands at an imposing 135 feet tall as a tribute to Master Commandant Thomas MacDonough and his victory during the Battle of Plattsburg in the War of 1812. Inscribed at the base of the monument are the names of the ships under MacDonough’s command entitled Saratoga, Ticonderoga, Eagle and Preble. The obelisk is made of Indiana limestone and tapers to the top where a bronze eagle with a wing span of twenty feet sits prominently. The Macdonough Monument is situated in a beautiful park that offers many gorgeous views of the statue and the Saranac River. Standing in front of this incredible monument, it is hard not to think of the battle that took place here in Plattsburgh over two hundred years ago to ensure the freedom of all citizens of the United States. Made in America: Harrigans’s Soft Ice Cream stand located at 1243 New York Route 3, serving up frozen treats to the locals for over 60 years. Notably on the menu is the elusive Dole Whip. Originally a simple non-dairy pineapple frozen treat, the Dole Whip was born in 1984 and was only available at Disneyland in California. Soon the popularity of it carried it to other Disney attractions, and often the lines for a Dole Whip would rival lines for the amusement rides! Get yours much more easily in this small northern New York town. Instructions: Take a photo similar to the one attached along with rider flag and motorcycle. A second photo may be required for location and/or safety reasons. Refer to Rules 6-8 (https://bit.ly/3m7BRWv) for photo verification. Scorers have final say whether standards are met.
