Description: 2nd Iraq War Memorial Broadway and Washington St. Norwich, Connecticut GPS: 41.537377, -72.08387 Access: 24/7 Across Broadway from Norwich Free Academy stands Chelsea Parade (park) and a line of memorials called the Chelsea Monuments. Located on the northern point stands the Everlasting Vigilance monument to those who gave the last full measure in defense of American interests abroad. Two men from Norwich did just that in the second Iraq War and have their names inscribed on the panel. On the reverse is a laser engraved Battle Cross standing watch over those who sleep. Rounding out the Chelsea Monuments are eight more monuments including ones for the World Wars, Vietnam, POW-MIAs and even the Freedom Tree. Made in America: Back across the street is the Slater Memorial Museum with a rich collection of fine art from across the world as well as a large collection of plaster cast copies of the great statuary of Europe. Mohegan Sun Casino is only a few miles up the highway in Uncasville if you’re looking to try your luck. Although you can find a boatload of eating options in the casino, sticking to Norwich you’ll find good classic road food at the Sunset Family Restaurant & Pizza (425 Laurel Hill Ave) for lunch or dinner (and breakfast weekends). Or for a classic seafood stop, try the famous Johnny’s Clam Shack, the river runs straight into Long Island Sound from here. https://bit.ly/323H7GI Instructions: Take a photo similar to the one attached, with rider flag and motorcycle.
