AK3 - Delta Junction | Official End of the “Alcan Highway” Marker

Description: Official End of the “Alcan Highway” Marker Delta Visitors Center 2885 Alaska Hwy. Delta Junction, Alaska Access: 24/7 The 1,700 mile (1942) Alcan Highway construction started in March, 1942, and was completed in less than 8 months, averaging seven miles per day, mostly by the U.S. Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was designed as a supply route from the Continental USA to Alaska with approval from Canada that it would be turned over to Canada after the end of the war. The above marker is at the junction of Highway 2 (Alaska Highway) and Highway 4 (Richardson Highway) and continues on to Fairbanks as Highway 2. There is a great visitors center with information about Alaska’s involvement in World War II. Made in America: Delta Junction is only about 100 miles from Fairbanks so does not get a lot of attention from folks just passing through. The town has a lot of military history and a couple log roadhouse buildings from before World War II, one of which is now a museum, Sullivan’s Roadhouse. https://bit.ly/3lRvJRV Fuel: Delta is a critical fuel stop going both ways for bikes with smaller tanks. From here it’s 100 miles west to Tok, 100 miles east to Fairbanks and 200 miles south to Glennallen. Lodging/dining: Kelly’s Alaska Country Inn is a family owned 21 room motel that’s friendly, neat and clean. https://bit.ly/36UoRz8 Instructions: Take a photo similar to the one attached along with rider flag and motorcycle. A second photo may be required for location and/or safety reasons. Refer to Rules 6-8 (https://bit.ly/37FZwrP) for photo verification. Scorers have final say whether standards are met.
