Detailed description: The long-term goal of the project is to improve the quality of teaching and research activities at Hawassa University in Ethiopia, specifically at two faculties: the Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources and the College of Agriculture. The project will develop staff and students in three areas: the use of new biotechnologies for the conservation of genetic resources (molecular biology and plant explant culture); the introduction of new practices in agricultural production (agroforestry, ethnobotany and new crops, post-harvest processing of products); and rural extension (identification, implementation and evaluation of rural projects, value-chain development). Teaching will be carried out through a system of weekly to bi-weekly courses with practical workshops aimed at transferring the expertise and knowledge of the CZU to local students and teachers.
