Description: The Arba Minch Zuria district is an important fruit-growing area, producing about 15% of all Ethiopia's fruit. The potential of the area is significantly higher due to the suitable natural and soil conditions near Lake Abaya. To achieve this, there is a need to increase the knowledge and skills of local growers, implement better quality genetic material in production, diversify production and open up new marketing channels for producers.

Detailed description: To ensure the project's objectives, it is necessary to increase the diversity of fruit species, expand the use of sustainable agricultural practices in production, introduce more appropriate methods of storage and processing of harvested products and increase the competitiveness of producers and processors. These outputs will be achieved through sub-activities such as the establishment of nurseries and mother orchards, the selection of suitable species to diversify production, the implementation of better quality genetic material or the training of local growers in good orcharding and fruit growing practices and the appropriate handling of harvested products to reduce high post-harvest losses. Furthermore, a market analysis will be carried out with a view to selecting suitable fruit products and encouraging local operators to produce them. It also includes the supply of small-scale equipment for efficient work in the orchards and assistance to producers and fruit processors on the development of business plans, sales and marketing strategies, certification, management and sustainability monitoring. An awareness campaign will be conducted for the general population on the importance of good eating habits and dietary composition, with an emphasis on fruit and fruit products.
