Description: Pchum Ben is a Cambodian religious festival celebrated on the 15th day of the 10th month in the Khmer calendar. Pchum Ben is a religious celebration where people gather and honor or pray for the past 7 generations of their ancestors. Cambodian Buddhists believe that the souls of their ancestors are released for 15 days during which time they start their journey from purgatory. The course of the journey is decided by their karma and the offerings made by the living relatives. During the first 14 days people offer food and prayers at the pagodas. The last day is known as Ben Thom where families bring flowers and dress for the occasion.
