Ueno Zoo

Ueno Zoo

Description: ✅ Tested by us 👶 Baby friendly 🛒 Stroller accessible ⏱ Recommended time: 2–3 hours 💴 Adults: ¥600 🧒 Children up to 6th grade: free 🕤 9:30–17:00 ❌ Usually closed on Mondays An inexpensive and easy family activity in the middle of Ueno Park. Ueno Zoo is surprisingly beautiful, with plenty of greenery and lovely places to slow down between the animal exhibits. We visited with our little daughter and genuinely loved our time here. FAMILY FACILITIES • three nursing rooms • hot water for preparing formula • baby beds and changing facilities • children’s toilet in the West Garden • stroller rental for ¥500 • restaurants, snack stands and rest areas The rental strollers recline and are intended for children from 7 months to 4 years, up to 18 kg. GOOD TO KNOW Japan has had no giant pandas since January 2026, so do not visit specifically expecting to see them. The former zoo monorail is also no longer operating. OUR TIP Start with Ueno Park Playground and coffee at Starbucks Ueno Onshi Park. After your visit, you can continue on foot towards Akihabara. It is a lovely way to watch the calm greenery of Ueno gradually turn into one of Tokyo’s brightest and busiest neighbourhoods.
