Fahlo
Fahlo connects e-commerce with wildlife tracking
Fahlo uses global e-commerce to sell bracelets connected to tracking the movement of wildlife
Fahlo came up with the original model of selling bracelets that are connected to tracking the movement of wildlife. With each bracelet, customers receive a special QR code that links the bracelet to the route of a certain tracked animal.
Fahlo uses the Mapotic platform for data processing, route visualization on the web, and a customer mobile application that is used by hundreds of thousands of users every month.
ABOUT THIS CLIENT
Fahlo is an American startup that works with wildlife organizations and sends a portion of its sales to support these organizations in exchange for data. Interactive tracking of wildlife movements is a key part of their product. Through the sale of bracelets, Fahlo’s mission is to educate people around the world and involve them more in the protection and conservation of wildlife.

Mapotic for Fahlo processes the following formats and data sources GPS (tracking data)
- Argos
- Wildlife Computers
- CSV
- Google Sheets

Automated processing and aggregation of GPS data from many different sources

Connecting QR codes and a customer application with visualization of the movement of tracked animals
To provide the best possible user experience, Fahlo came up with a request to modify the mobile application so that users could see the visualization of particular animal tracks by scanning the QR code of the purchased bracelet.
We have implemented several extensions into our standard application that allow this. Plus, users can easily add or buy additional bracelets directly in the app.
If customers do not want to use the mobile app, they can use a web browser. This offers limited functions, but still displays animal routes and allows for alternating between different map layers.

The challenges we faced while working on the Fahlo project:
Different map data providers
Integration of map layers with weather
Automated processing of data from different providers
Connecting tracked animals to QR codes
Setting up back office for metadata
Traffic peaks with thousands of people online at the same time
Visualization of dynamic data
Bracelet sales are skyrocketing, and the Fahlo brand itself is starting to gain a name both among end users as well as non-profits, which ensures constant and predictable support.
We continue to develop the project for the client – either together with the development of the Mapotic platform, or with tailor-made add-ons specific to Fahlo.

"Mapotic has done a great job from the implementation phase to execution which allows us to focus on strategy, sales, and marketing."

Back office for managing tracked animals and data sources
User account integration for easy user account management and a robust Firebase back office is an integral part of our applications. Through this, system administrators can manage all data, add newly tracked animals, manage translations of the application and the web interface, and much more.
